I'm very sensitive to smell and it's funny but I never really thought about the fact that older people (older than me that is) have a certain scent, which I often find unpleasant. I have nothing against old-er people, it's just the smell I'm referring to and I might also add that the old people smell is not as off putting as the scent of sweaty teenage boys!
Anyway, I read an article and the Japanese even have a word for it, kareishuu. There's even a study which was done in Poland that finds that one can tell the age of a person by their smell. Yes that's right, human body odor changes with age
Wait a minute. There's something unusual about the subway seat you just claimed. It's awfully warm, and a peculiar odor seems to hover in the air nearby—a stale, musty odor tinged with something as acrid as mothballs. You know this aroma: it's "old person smell."
