Occupy Oakland takes back plaza

A victory was won last night.

I followed Twitter and the live stream while at least 1,000 protestors (Occupy Oakland estimates the total closer to 3,000) took back their camp last night. During the General Assembly there was a call to send Oakland protesters over to San Francisco to help with the effort to hold their ground as well.

In the late hours of the night, I watched as the protesters marched very close to my place. The police blocked entry to the street and ordered the march down another street. The protesters followed their orders peacefully.

In the end, Mayor Quan rescinded her decision to bar the protesters from Frank Ogawa Park. I also heard the group voted to rename the plaza, Oscar Grant Plaza.

Word has it that San Francisco is not forcing its protestors to move from their location either.

I'll have to find more info as none is available at this time.

All in all, a peaceful night!

I leave you with little Jon Stewart
