No You Can't

WORDS Do MATTER
"Those who oppose a diverse society, and who use progressive policy progress to channel that anger, can keep blogging home addresses of Democratic members of Congress, can keep throwing bricks, spitting, name-calling and threatening the deaths of children. We are not going away. We are going to continue to work in the democratic system to make America more just. But this is a crucial point for the nation to examine what is happening in the public debate. Who are we as a nation and how do we hold ourselves accountable to that ideal? There is hate out there right now, and it falls upon all of us to call it out for what it is, to disallow any political party to encourage it, and to do whatever we have in our power to stop this rising trend. It was a beautiful weekend this last week in DC. Light will win out over darkness, but history tells us it will not happen without all of us standing up and declaring ENOUGH!" Tanene Allison

John Boehner

"NO YOU CAN'T"
Report: From Medialite
This was almost guaranteed to happen from the minute House Minority Leader John Boehner launched into his No You Can’t tirade to end Sunday’s final hearings before the vote on the health care bill that was signed into law yesterday (The bill, now forever known, as the Big F’n Deal.)
In what will be the first of many, here is the first mash-up of Boehner’s comments with the emblematic Will.i.am Yes, We Can video from the 2008 presidential campaign. When you wake up in the morning, just remember that no matter how good of a day you think it’s going to be, Boehner will bring you back to earth:

I hope that more people will stand up and say ENOUGH to hate speech. We've heard an enormous amount of vitriol, defamatory conspiracy theories and propaganda from political leaders who ought to know better. THIS is NOT a favorite subject of mine.
Hopefully tomorrow I can get back to blogging about Paris.

The same ones who spout their "Family Values" spiels...

I want to know what families they come from because they are scary.

Like the bumper sticker says, "Hate is NOT a family value".

I saw on the news this morning that someone had faxed to a member of congress a picture of a noose and said something like all "baby killers" would one day be dealt with by either man's hand or God's.

Uh, hellllllooooooo nut cases, ALL human beings are God's children.

So in killing another human being they effectively become the baby killer that they accuse others of being.

They just don't get it.

I agree it is time to stand up and show how proud we are to be passive and loving, and peaceful people. It is also going to take convincing religious clergy to get some backbone and bring those members of their own to task -- and remember that this nation was founded on the principal of religious freedom, and separation between church and state. No one has the right to impose their beliefs on another -- no one.
