How Much Is that Doggy in the Window?

I love my 2 little Yorkies more than anything.  So, it's sad to think about the fact that their breeders were arrested on charges of animal cruelty in Dec. They were actually charged with more than that but I think that is the charge that ended up sticking.  When I got my 2 girls (June & Aug 09) the breeders had a nice little family farm in Dixon where they bred Yorkies and Maltese. We visited the farm on several occasions. All seemed fine to me. I spoke with them by phone and we exchanged many emails before I made my choice. It appears that since Aug they decided to open a pet store and were(allegedly)selling puppies that they got from puppy mills across the country along with running a lottery which is illegal in CA. Since they charged a Pretty Penny for their purebred puppies, I think they, just plain, got $$$ GREEDY $$$

When the pet store was raided there were more than 80 puppies for sale. The puppies were kept in crowded cages. Many of them were sick and several died soon after they were purchased. They also picked up other puppies that had been kept in other locations. In the end the final total was about 100.

The Solano County SPCA stepped in to save the day and took the puppies into custody. The number of puppies they had to care for was overwhelming and they weren't equipped to provide for that many small puppies all at once. The workers took many home to care for them and nurse them back to health. Public donations poured in and helped with the cost of caring for the puppies and now they are about ready to begin the adoption process. The sentencing for the breeders has been delayed until 4/15.
Here are some pictures of my girls taken today
Lola
Lily
Lola aka Lolini
nickname = Lola & Houdini
anyone with a Yorkie knows why
Just "Lily" (she needs no nickname)

The Solano County SPCA is currently taking applications for anyone interested in adopting one of the rescued puppies.
If you have questions regarding the application process they can be emailed to:

Ewwww. Poor puppies. I'm glad you got your girls when you did.

I hope those greedy bastards get the Michael Vick treatment.

I wish I could rescue a few of those poor babies myself. Someday I will be in a place where I can have pets, and can actually feed them too. I'm working on it.

Anyway, your girls are adorable and I hope you keep working on the training. Little ones are the hardest sometimes, but it can be done. It is training us not to give into them that is the hard part!
