The Blush Stops Here

As we mature we are often bombarded with the same old fashion question...
How Can I Look Younger?

Many women think the answer is to dress younger. WRONG. This does not make a woman look younger, on the contrary it can make you look older. The secret depends on knowing the boundaries between dressing younger and dressing like a teenager.

Here is my Top Ten List
of things that can make you look older than you are
1. Dowdy jeans, light wash/faded jeans and "mom" jeans.
2. Clothes that are too baggy or too tight
3. Outdated swimwear
4. Outdated sunglasses
5. Makeup mistakes include: too heavy blush, foundation, eyeshadow or eyeliner, clumpy mascara, and too much powder
6. Hair that is dry & brittle or gray
7. Big plaids, especially if you are carrying some extra weight.
8. Dressing too sexy
9. Clogs (unless you have a foot problem). Clogs will be coming into fashion this spring. The clunkier and chunkier the clog the more matronly you will look. Clogs are not fabulous, unless you wear them for teaching, nursing, gardening, or inside as slippers.
10. Low rise clothing or wearing anything with visible belly (aka MUFFIN TOP)

Tips on "Dressing Younger"

The most basic problem that the majority of the mature women have is being stuck with a trend from the past.  As such, if you want to look younger, you have to look good using the recent fashion trends as your gauge.
Try to update your wardrobe every season. Make sure that you have a few trendy pieces in your closet. These can help you keep up with the latest styles.
Tailored vests along with tweedy suits, khaki suits and trouser suits are making a comeback for spring. Finally after almost 10 years out of action the neat lines of the sophisticated suit will be all the rage. When thinking about new suits, think pretty. Suits and feminine lace and silk blouses in ivory, latte, khaki, buttermilk and dove grey are the freshest spring hues.

Check out the celebrities of your age and see what they are wearing. There are many mature celebrities that still manage to look elegant and stylish. Look at what they are wearing for their day to day activities and try to imitate their styles.

It's OK to wear clothing that younger people are sporting these days, but make sure that you can adapt it to your age and style. Choose a style and design that fits your body type. Try to always keep your accessories and jewelry at a minimum.

When buying clothes always check the colors and shades. Make sure that they are a good match for your skin tone. Keep your style simple. If you try too hard, chances are you'll end up dressing inappropriately for your age.

Conceal other obvious signs of aging - the most popular of which is having gray hair. Investigate other anti-aging solutions that are available for the mature woman.

Finally, invest in classic pieces that never go out of style. The most common of which is a simple black dress or a structured suit. These classic pieces will give you the chance to always look up to date and stylish regardless of the current fashion trends and your age.

Hi. My name is ______________ and I wear clogs.

LOL

It's true. I do. I have a black pair, a brown pair, and a pair that's light blue with bright blue splotches on them.

*hanging my head*

I don't wear them as much any more but I love to put them on to run a quick errand or two.
