Spring Into Style

I noticed that the buds are beginning to return to the trees here in northern California. With spring only a couple of months away you may have noticed that the winter clothes have all but disappeared from the store racks and in their place are the brightly colored fashions for spring and summer. What better time to talk about what's hot for the upcoming season.

Fashion Trends for Spring 2010
(If you are under 40 - Go for it while you can)
  1. Hot Pants & Boy Shorts - Hemlines are on the rise

New Spring Colors 2010
Turquoise ~Tomato Puree ~ Fusion Coral ~ Violet ~ Tuscany

Tuscany ~ Aurora ~ Amparo Blue ~ Pink Champagne ~ Dried Herb ~ Eucalyptus

Some of the trends I wouldn't touch with a 10 ft pole are:
Boy Shorts: unless you are a twenty-something this is way too much advertising. For those of us over 40 this is a trend that you should have gotten out of your system the first time around.
High Side Split Dress: Never been a fan of thigh high splits but if you like it and can wear it, my hats off to you.
Big headband bow: with my hair you'd know why, but maybe some of you can pull this look off.
Ripped and Torn jeans: May look like you are trying too hard to look young. I say stick with a more tailored jean in a dark wash. Oh, and you might want to minimize the rips.

My Tips For Looking Fabulous in Your 40's, 50's and Beyond
Of course you should always use your head with any fashion trend. Just because they make it in your size doesn't mean you should wear it. If you happen to like a particular color or fashion trend that is just not working for you, try wearing it as jewelry, a handbag or even use it as a part of your interior design at home. Bold plaids, florals and stripes look stunning as bedding or upholstery. The Warrior look which emphasizes military and tribal looks will work amazingly well as a handbag, pair of shoes or boots.

Some of the trends I am excited about are:
Future Warrior/Tribal: I think if done properly you can still pull off a military or tribal look after the age of 40.
Patterns and Prints: are also OK in my book. Just wear the appropriate size pattern or print for your height and body type. You might also want to stick with smaller patterns in more subdued colors.
Denim: I love denim! You might even be able to do a subtle patchwork jean (depending on the pattern) or a jegging.
Whatever you decide to wear, don't be afraid to experiment.
Have fun and own your personal fashion style.

Oh well.

The only thing I think I'd like would be the boyfriend jacket over a pair of jeans.
