Pushed over the edge...Real Time

Friday June 21 was the last time that I will watch Real Time with Bill Maher.

What happened to the Bill Maher I used to know?

I will agree that he does raise some important issues, he can be funny and he introduces some interesting people and ideas now and again. He also helps to set the record straight and I appreciate those moments, yet it seems that they are few and far between these days.

So, sadly, I must stop watching the show. I'm not sure if it's his blind and reckless worship of Obama, (maybe this is because he gave $1million dollars to a super pac supporting Obama and I didn't give Obama a dime this time around) or maybe it's statements such as the ones he made on Friday -- "the Obama Administration isn't dirty" "the air is dirty" or, his ignorant defense of Paula Deen saying she should be given a pass for her use of the 'N'' because she's old.  “It’s just a word, it’s a wrong word, she’s wrong to use it, but do we always have to make people go away?” (don't get me wrong here because the issue here isn't really about Paula Deen per se, it's the lack of understanding of the true roots of racism in America, which has very little to do with Paul Deen). Anyway, all are unacceptable to me and I have been pushed over the edge, real time.

Sorry Bill, but as hard as you try and as much as you think you are an expert on the black experience, and...think that you are one if us -- you are not. I don't find it funny to listen to you make jokes at my expense.

So buh buh

And.... as long as we're going there. Let  me once again address the myriad of reasons why it is NOT oK to use the "N" word. So next time you are tempted to use the word because you heard a rapper use it in a song or you overheard a black person use it, take it from me....DON't do it!!!

There were a couple of times I considered divorcing Bill and thought about it awhile.

Sadly, I just did not like his views on religion and being that I’m Christian and feel everyone have freedom of choice; I kindly disagreed with his views and accepted him for who he was and continued to watch the show.

In my world, words and views are like eating fish, “You take the meat and leave the bones.”

If I was upset at everyone who touched my feelings, I guess I would just turn off everything electronic and wait for the second coming.

Of course it is sad to see someone who campaigned for Obama, lose her job over a statement which in my view is profoundly tasteless.

But let’s look at the networks and the politics behind those billion dollar shows. The Food Network Works states they will not renew Paula’s Contract, But HBO and Bill is making a killing.

Maybe Paula should have thought about HBO’s network instead of the one that hire her. Trust me, there is a lot behind all the talk and hype from both sides.

Thank you for your comment.

You are correct and I am sure there is much more to the situation.

Actually, my real beef is with the media in general. I decided long ago to dump the kool aid. When I see that the news (or in this case Maher giving comedic opinion on the "news") is not calling out our politicians or our government on their sh*t, I am turn them off. You can vote for someone and still be objective ( I voted for Obama too) So Maher is just one of many to end up in my pile. I noticed that one by one any real honest journalism is disappearing from our stations. Of course that leaves me no reliable news sources on TV these days :)
