I have spoken to many people who are against the Occupy movement (especially the Oakland Occupy). Some people are now (conveniently) claiming that the reason they oppose the movement is due to the violence within.
While it is true that "violence and resistance" are often present (as in any movement), I do not believe that the majority of Americans have taken any time to research the movement, and most are basing "their opinion" once again, on the negative sound bites they are being fed from their favorite source of daily "news", the main stream media. (of course watchers of Fox News are excluded as their marching orders are fed to them daily, intravenously)
As a matter of fact, the next time the protestors are marching, and someone looks out the window from their comfortable high rise office building and tells me that the occupiers should spend their time "getting a job", I'm going to ask them to give me the names of the research articles they've read about the movement. I'm pretty sure they won't be able to name a one. I'm also pretty sure they think their baseless comments are showing how " intelligent" they are, but in truth it only shows their ignorance.
The Occupy movement is still very young and as such, there are many forces at work - some are for them - but many are against them, (namely the biggest forces against them are our those from our very own government - you know, the one for the people and by the people).
Now, I'm not saying that people can't be against the movement, so don't get me wrong. It's still a free country (partially) and at least for the moment, you still have the right to think what you want -- but just be sure you know the real facts before you make your decision and go shooting off your mouth.
There are many articles being written on the subject as well. If you decide to do your own research try to keep in mind "who" is writing the article and whose interests they represent.

The Cancer in Occupy
by Chris Hedges
The Black Bloc anarchists, who have been active on the streets in Oakland and other cities, are the cancer of the Occupy movement.
The presence of Black Bloc anarchists—so named because they dress in black, obscure their faces, move as a unified mass, seek physical confrontations with police and destroy property—is a gift from heaven to the security and surveillance state.
The Occupy encampments in various cities were shut down precisely because they were nonviolent. They were shut down because the state realized the potential of their broad appeal even to those within the systems of power.
They were shut down because they articulated a truth about our economic and political system that cut across political and cultural lines. And they were shut down because they were places mothers and fathers with strollers felt safe.
The Black Bloc’s thought-terminating cliché of “diversity of tactics” in the end opens the way for hundreds or thousands of peaceful marchers to be discredited by a handful of hooligans. The state could not be happier. It is a safe bet that among Black Bloc groups in cities such as Oakland are agents provocateurs spurring them on to more mayhem. But with or without police infiltration the Black Bloc is serving the interests of the 1 percent. These anarchists represent no one but themselves. Those in Oakland, although most are white and many are not from the city, arrogantly dismiss Oakland’s African-American leaders, who, along with other local community organizers, should be determining the forms of resistance.
Here's a reader comment to the story
Does Hedges seriously believe that there was ANY intent to allow Occupy to thrive? Is he COMPLETELY IGNORANT of the Homeland Security involvement in shutting down Occupy, and of the mayoral meetings (mostly DEMOCRATS, the real cancer of the left, sucking up its resources and killing the body...) to plan how to evict and marginalize? What do you think?
