Oakland Police Officer speaks out on Occupy

Unfortunately I was right. This morning, the Occupy Oakland encampment was raided and torn down. As I hear, it was peaceful, although I wonder if it was really necessary to have 600 police storm in to destroy 70 tents?

As I was walking home tonight, once again I was subjected to the drone of the helicopters circling over head. It reminds me of the pictures the media loves to show us where people in other countries are being brutalized and mistreated by their military (I mean police are certainly on equal with the military when they don riot gear). When we see it happen in other countries we are told that we need to rush in and help (even if it means going to war) but when it happens here, well, it's a different story. That really infuriates me. I have a visceral reaction to the sight and the sound of these copters over head.

I also have a feeling that many police go in to that line of work because of the power it affords them. And I am appalled at the injustice and cruelty I have seen the police perpetrate upon helpless people (especially African Americans and other people of color).

Can you tell I'm a little pissed?

Anyway, here is a police officer that I think I could actually like.(of course I didn't see the other video that went viral either).
