I'll be Dog Gone

Lily & Lola December 2009

Today I am writing about dog training or in our case.... the lack of it. Even though my Yorkies are cute and totally adorable they are still puppies and they lack the discipline I see in so many other dogs. I read the books and watched all the Animal Planet shows along with the Dog Whisperer.

They are out-of-control when it comes to BARKING at other dogs and I was totally embarrassed yesterday when I attempted to take them for an evening walk. Lola pulled so hard on the leash that she broke free from her jacket and went running down our busy street. OMG - Luckily a nice lady was coming our way and caught her. Something has got to change.

Lily Graduation Day Aug 2009
I took Lily to a Puppy training class back in August so she has the basics - sit stay, etc but Lola has never gone. I also paid BIG $ to have them in puppy daycare for the last 4 months. Due to the cost, as of tomorrow, they will no longer attend. They will have to stay home alone in their exercise pen for about 10 hrs while I toil away at my day job in the city.
To say I am a little "freaked out", would be an under statement!

Exercise Pen
They will also begin 2 feedings per day instead of 3. Primarily to cut down on the shit (to be quite blunt). So today I made a schedule so that I can track their eating, walking and pooping. They will have a dog walker who will take them on a group walk for 2-3 hrs on Wednesday's. Will they begin to poop and pee on schedule? Will they use their designated pee pad and not the floor of the pen and then walk around in it all day while I'm gone??? Oh horror, the thought of it makes me cringe! We'll see and I'll let keep you posted.

Say a prayer for me.

Thanks for the invite to view your blog. It sure helps me keep up with you and your busy life! Don't despair about the girls. You have to be firm with both of them and you have to have a schedule for them -- hopefully you will see improvements. It is hard to get them to behave sometimes, because they are so little and you cave in. Just picture them as behemoth dogs, and they have to obey you, cause you are the alpha lead dog! I would love to be there to help -- I've trained several dogs in the past and got them to behave with persistence and 15 - 30 minutes of training every day at a set time. There must be some tricks with these little ones...you'll find them out and get them to listen to you. Wish you the best with this!

So what's the news on the little girls?

Are they piddling on their pads?

Is Lola better at staying on her leash?

How are they doing with two feedings a day??
